7/19/2024

The Highlander Fire Protection District Board of Fire Trustees wishes to update the information on Chief Jeremy Klein’s administrative leave on July 4th, 2024.

The board president, Matt Smith, states that all three Floyd County Commissioners were notified on the day Chief Klein was informed of the administrative leave, that Deputy Chief Terry Herthel is in command, and that the “dedicated fire and EMS personnel will continue to service our community…”

President Smith also states that the Law Firm of Craig Henry PLC was hired to conduct an independent investigation into an “HR-related issue.” Until the independent investigation is complete, the fire board of trustees will have no further discussion in this personnel matter. President Smith also wants the public to know that “Any speculation or grandstanding before that [the investigation] is complete is just that.”

The Highlander Fire Protection District Fire Board of Trustees and the staff of the Highlander Fire Protection District “…appreciate the community support” as they wait for the independent investigation to be completed.
