On Wednesday at 6 PM, the Lafayette Township Fire Protection District received a request for assistance from the New Albany Fire Department. They needed fire coverage for parts of the city because they were dealing with a complex structure fire. Also, they requested Rescue 1 to fill their SCBA air bottles on the fire scene.
To help out, LTFPD’s IFFA local 5426 off-duty personnel returned to work and added a reserve engine at Station 1 in Floyds Knobs to fill in. Meanwhile, Quad 11 and Rescue 1 crews assisted NAFD. On the same day, there were three other calls for service. Just before 7 PM, there was a smoke alarm call in Georgetown; it was an unintentional activation of the smoke alarm.
Later, at 8:40 PM, Georgetown Fire Protection District received a dispatch for a structure fire at 7778 Corydon Ridge Rd. LTFPD immediately responded to the box alarm with Engine 31 from Station 3 and Engine 33 at Station 1, the reserve engine operated by off-duty personnel. There was a fire in the rear of the structure. Those crews were able to have the fire under control within 15 minutes of responding—no word on the damage to that structure.
While the structure fire on Corydon Ridge Rd. was ongoing, LTFPD Quad 11 and Rescue 1 were released from New Albany. However, while returning, a second structure fire was dispatched to 7010 US Highway 150 at 9:24 PM. Quad 11 responded and arrived on the scene to find a fire in the rear of the structure on the outside of the building. The fire was quickly extinguished after Quad 11 arrived, and an extensive overhaul had to be completed. The fire had started to enter the attic space of the building, but fortunately, it did not enter the interior of the building. Engine 31 and Engine 33 were released from the fire in Georgetown and responded as well. Palmyra Fire Protection District in Harrison County was also requested to assist with the fire on US 150. Minimal smoke and water damage occurred, and the business remains open as the building was mainly used for storage.
